Wall-Hung vs Floor-Standing WC

A wall-hung WC lifts the pan clear of the floor, letting stone or large-format tile run uninterrupted from wall to wall. It is the single most effective move for making a compact bathroom feel resolved.

It requires an in-wall frame and concealed cistern, which needs roughly 120 to 150 mm of wall build-up. In new build this is trivial; in refurbishment it usually means a stud wall to one side of the room.

Serviceability is the objection we hear most, and it is largely historical. A modern Sigma or GD2 cistern is fully serviceable through the flush plate aperture, and Geberit guarantees spare parts for 25 years.

Floor-standing pans remain the pragmatic choice where wall build-up is impossible or where a back-to-wall unit is already part of the joinery design.
